Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for enacting a ‘political drama’ over the suicide by an ex-armyman.
He alleged that the Congress vice president and his party had earlier raised questions on surgical strikes and the Bhopal encounter of SIMI activists and "are now conspiring to create confusion in the country over OROP only for their political gains".
"Did Rahul Gandhi go to meet the relatives of the deceased soldier or was it a political drama? By visiting the family and raising questions to create a controversy and mislead the people over OROP is certainly enactment of a full-time political drama by part-time politicians," he said.
“We feel this political drama should stop and if anyone does not speak in one voice on the issue of security, the people of the country will give a befitting reply as has been done in the past,” he added.
The Minister said Congress is raising questions over OROP to avoid answering as to why it did not roll out the scheme under its 40-year rule.
"If you see the chronology of events, first questions were raised on surgical strikes, then on killing of SIMI terrorists and now they are trying to create confusion over OROP," he said.
"Those people who are raising questions over OROP had kept silent for 40 years on the whole issue. Those who were supposed to give answers are trying to evade it by raising questions."
Naqvi also said that some leaders were misleading the country with their ‘negative’ politics.
“Such type of negative politics will adversely affect the morale of the brave soldiers who are giving a befitting reply to the country's enemy and people will reject them as in the past,” he said.
Naqvi said the country stood united on the issue of national security and was speaking in one voice and those who do not do so "will face the consequences".
