Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu today said that he will give Congress vice-president a ‘great gift’ by ensuring that the party emerges victorious in Punjab Assembly elections.
“Truth will win this war. We are sure that the Congress will form the next government in the state. I will give Rahul Gandhi a ‘great gift’ with Congress’ revival,” Sidhu said in Amritsar.
“Very confident of our win, did door to door campaigns and got positive response about my mother and father,” he added.
Sidhu switched over to Congress on the eve of Punjab Assembly elections after a long stint with the BJP. He won Amritsar parliamentary constituency three times on the BJP ticket.
He is the Congress candidate from Amritsar East seat this time.
During his election campaign, Sidhu heavily criticised the Badal family and urged voters to ensure that they were thrown out of power.
He also accused AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal of not providing enough jobs for youths in Delhi.
“ The politician who wears a cap, ask him how many jobs he has created in New Delhi. I will tell you the figures; he has just provided 1,400 jobs to people,” he said.
53-year-old Sidhu’s entry has overshadowed other contestants who are in the race for the Amritsar East seat, including Rajesh Kumar Honey, the district president of BJP and a councillor of the party.
