New Delhi: In yet another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sumbramanian Swamy has trained his guns on RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, accusing him of impropriety in the grant of licenses to Small Finance Banks.
Swamy has demanded an SIT probe into the role of RBI officials including the Governor of RBI saying the whole process of approvals for the banks is arbitrary and leaves scope for conspiracy.
Swamy has alleged that Reserve Bank of India under the leadership of Rajan granted licenses to small Finance Banks for money laundering purposes of several of the politicians and bureaucrats who were friendly to the then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.
In the letter to Modi, Swamy has alleged that "in-principre approval” to 10 small Finance Bank Licenses by RBI were against the existing guidelines. “Looking into the credentials of successful applicants, it is apparent that most of these applicant's foreign holding are contrary to the criteria as set out by RBI for Small Finance Banks. Most of successful applicants are in fact controlled by foreign entities, Swamy said in the letter.
Swamy who has openly opposed second term for Raghuram Rajan wrote to PM, “RBI has failed to perform the duty diligently and/or take action to rectify thus seems to be, on the face of it, a malafide negligence.”
“lt is malafide since it appears to be prima facie for money laundering purposes of several of the politicians and bureaucrats who were friendly to the then Finance Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram. Official friendly and compromised by Mr. Chidambaram stilt dominate the high posts in the Finance Ministry,” Swamy wrote.
“You may therefore consider a probe by the CBI led SlT, and have RBI officials including the Governor of RBI interrogated for this scam,” read the letter.
