‘Personally glad Kovind is presidential candidate’: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar
An advocate by profession, Kovind was made the Governor of Bihar two years ago after the NDA assumed power at the Centre in May 2014.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today showered praise on Governor Ram Nath Kovind, whom the ruling BJP-led NDA earlier has named its candidate for the July 17 Presidential election.
Speaking to media outside Raj Bhavan here after meeting Kovind, Kumar said that he ‘was personally glad over his candidature’ for the top Constitutional job.
"Kovind has discharged his duties in an unbiased manner as the Bihar Governor. He has worked as per the Constitution and upheld the dignity of the Governor's post. His was an ideal relation with the state government," Kumar said.
"I am personally glad he is the presidential candidate," he added.
When asked about his party’s stand, Kumar replied: “It is difficult to say at this point of time. I had talks with Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on this issue. We will discuss the issue later and decide.”
An advocate by profession, Kovind was made the Governor of Bihar two years ago after the NDA assumed power at the Centre in May 2014. A member of the Rajya Sabha for 12 years and part of several parliamentary panels, Kovind once headed the BJP's Dalit wing. He had practised law in both High Court and the Supreme Court.
