Patna High court today revoked the membership of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Chhedi Paswan for concealing information in his affidavit to the election commission.
The honourable court acted upon a petition filed by one Ganga Mishra who had alleged that the Sasaram lawmaker concealed his criminal record in his affidavit to the election commission resulting in his nomination.
The verdict was pronounced by the single bench of Justice K.K. Mandal.
Reacting to the judgement, Paswan said, "It was not on purpose, I have nothing to hide. "
He also said that he respects the court order but will surely challenge this verdict.
This was Paswan's third term as MP as he has previously won Lok Sabha elections in 1989 and 1991 on Janta Dal ticket defeating Meira Kumar of the Indian National Congress party on both occasions.
Later he joined JD(U) faction after Jantal Dal break up. He was defeated by BJP Chunilal Yadav in 1996. He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election after defecting to the BJP and won the Sasaram seat. He has also been an MLA for multiple times.
