Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today rubbished opposition parties allegations that the Gorakhpur Mahotsav was funded by the state government.

Addressing the crowd in his bastion on the last of three-day celebrations, Adityanath said that opposition leaders are victim of misapprehension and that the people of Gorakhpur have organised the event at its fullest.

The CM said that his government strongly believes in the principle of financial disciple and state government’s funds are only disbursed for the welfare of people across the state. He accused the opposition of maligning the festival by trading false charges.

“There is no government funding in organising this Mahotsav (festival). People (opposition) are the victim of misinterpretation. We are committed to financial discipline,” he said.

The three-day Gorakhpur Mahotsav, which began on Thursday, Yogi said, is not like other festivals where crowd go berserk and indulge in activities like loot and scuffle.

The Mahotsav is at a centre of controversy from last few days with opposition leaders claiming that the state government diverted funds from its treasury to organise the festival in CM’s home constituency.
