Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today denied reports of Chinese incursion in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
“The India-China border is not formally demarcated. There are areas where both sides have differing perceptions of LAC (Line of Actual Control). Barhoti in Uttarakhand is one such area. There was no incursion by Chinese troops, just transgression which has been settled,” Manohar Parrikar said in the Lok Sabha.
Parrikar made the statement after the members expressed concern over the reports of Chinese intrusion in Uttarakhand.
“There is a well defined mechanism to settle such transgressions,” Parrikar added.
The issue was raised in Lok Sabha by Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia who said People’s Liberation Army had transgressed the border on land and by air in Chamoli district earlier this month.
Scindia wondered why the government did not come up with a response on such a serious matter.
Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav termed China a deceitful country (dhokebaz desh) and asked the government to be extra careful in dealing with Beijing.
