Patna: Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today welcomed Bihar government’s recommendation for a CBI probe into the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan in Siwan but said it was “forced” to do so under “sustained pressure” from the Opposition and the public.

He, however, claimed that by recommending the CBI probe, the Chief Minister has accepted “incapability” of the Bihar police to carry out an impartial probe in the case, in which former RJD MP Shahabuddin’s role is under scanner.

Shahabuddin’s presence in Siwan, although in a jail, has “revived” fear of terror in the district with RJD being a senior partner in the alliance government, he claimed.

He demanded the RJD strongman be shifted from the Siwan jail.

The BJP leader also urged RJD supremo Lalu Prasad to remove Shahabuddin from the National Executive of the party to “restore” public confidence in his party.

In the Aditya Sachdeva murder case in Gaya, Modi attacked the state government for not arresting now suspended JD(U) MLC Manoram Devi, who surrendered today, on the same day the police conducted raids at her residence and seized liqour.

Modi criticised Nitish for “drum beating” about enforcing prohibition in Bihar, though enforcement of the rule of law is “100 times more important” than banning consumption of liqour.

Claiming that as many as 13 legislators of the Grand Alliance have been booked for various crimes in the first six months after being elected, Modi asked the Chief Minister to release a white paper on actions taken against them.
