New Delhi: Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday rejected demands to rename Akbar Road - one of the most elite addresses in Delhi.

"It's not on my agenda. My priority is to improve civic administration. My priority is to make cities a place of better living," Naidu told a news channel.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh had written to Naidu that Akbar Road should be renamed after the man who fought Mughal Emperor Akbar - 16th century Rajput king Maharana Pratap.

"You would be aware that he was not only instrumental in stopping the might of Mughal king Akbar but he was truly secular and a man of masses," Singh said in the letter.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has also demanded Akbar Road should be renamed.

The Congress headquarters and other prominent addresses are located on Akbar Road, in Lutyens zone.

The NDA government had earlier renamed Aurangzeb Road to A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in the memory of the former president.
