Human Resource and Development minister Prakash Javdekar went little overboard at a public meeting in MP, when he added a few more names to the list of freedom fighters who were hanged to death before independence.

At a rally at Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara on Monday, Javdekar made a blooper as he took names of former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the list of revolutionaries who laid their lives for independence.

“The fight for independence that began in 1857 ended 90 years later when we threw the British out. We salute freedom fighters…. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit (Jawahar Lal Nehru), Bhagat Singh and Rajguru who were hanged.” the veteran BJp leader said while taking part in 'Tiranga Yatra'.

Javdekar has recently been promoted to cabinet rank and given the education ministry; he was earlier MoS (independent charge) in environment ministry

Javdekar was factually wrong as Nehru died in 1964 due to natural causes, while Sardar Patel died in 1950 at the age of 75. The death of Netajee Subhash Chandra Bose is still a mystery.
