Haryana recommends CBI probe into Jat stir violence

Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government has recommended a CBI probe into the large-scale violence that took place during the Jat agitation in the state.

Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government has recommended a CBI probe into the large-scale violence that took place during the Jat agitation in the state.  

Making the request for CBI probe, the state government has asked the central government to probe the "criminal and political" angle into the violence.

The government has reportedly asked for the inclusion of attacks on the residences of state Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu and Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Circuit House and other government buildings.

A violent mob broke into the Finance Minister Captain Abhimanya's house on February 19. The protestors set his home ablaze and allegedly tried to kill nine members of his family.

Captain Abhimanya, who was in Chandigarh at that time, had later said, "It was a political conspiracy to wipe out my entire family...This was a conspiracy by disgruntled elements and political opponents who could not make it to power corridors through democratic ways."Chandigarh at that time, had later said, "It was a political conspiracy to wipe out my entire family...This was a conspiracy by disgruntled elements and political opponents who could not make it to power corridors through democratic way."

The minister has welcomed the probe by the central agency, saying "everybody wants to know the truth".

Rohtak was the epicentre of the Jat agitation for quota in jobs and education in which over 30 lives were lost and property worth hundreds of crore of rupees was destroyed.
