New Delhi: The Haryana government today granted eight-week more time to SN Dhingra Commission, which was set up to probe land deals involving Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, to complete its investigation and submit a detailed report.
Speaking to media, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed that he has extended the tenure of the panel so that it can look in to all the aspects thoroughly.
"Justice Dhingra would know the reason, he asked me for some more time, and following my duties, I gave him time. I gave him time so that he could properly look into all aspects, because it would create problem if any new issue comes up in the end," Khattar said.
The Chief Minister also rejected Vadra's allegation that the BJP is targeting him for political gain.
"On the basis of some legitimate facts we constituted this commission a year ago. And the point to be noted here is this commission was constituted long back, why are they making statements at a time when the result is about to be declared. Such actions show that there is something fishy," he said.
The Justice Dhingra Commission yesterday had sought six more weeks to probe land licences to companies, including that of Vadra's in Gurgaon. The state government had earlier twice extended the term of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, the Congress party today alleged that it was a political witch-hunt on part of the BJP-led Haryana government to assassinate Vadra's character.
“This move by the government to provide extension to the Dhingra Commission only proves that this is a political witch-hunt to assassinate the character (of Robert Vadra),” party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
“Justice Dhingra, who has virtually taken benefit from the BJP government and took plot for his own purpose from an individual, is not capable and apt to carry out the investigation in this case. Therefore, he should resign or he should be removed,” Surjewala added.
The controversy around Vadra is based on a 3.5-acre plot in Gurugram, which he bought in 2008 for Rs 7.5 crores and sold just months later for 58 crores to DLF, India's largest real estate developer.
