New Delhi: Delhi Police today briefly detained Congress President Sonia Gandhi, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders while they were on way to Parliament as part of their ‘Save democracy' march.
All these leaders, however, were released shortly after their detention.
Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh had assembled at Jantar Mantar (Delhi) to lead the ‘Save Democracy' march against Modi government.
Addressing Congress supporters at Jantar Mantar, Rahul said, "These days who ever speaks against Bhagwat and PM Modi, he/she is targetted with false allegations."
“This nation doesn't belong to a single person. We are fighting for all whether its labour class, farmers,” the Gandhi scion added.
Accusing the Modi government of killing democracy, Sonia Gandhi said that Modi government's lust for power drove them to topple the democratically chosen Uttarakhnd government.
"Uttarakhand's forest are detsroyed in fire but nothing can be done as their is no government there,"she added.
She further said, "Attempts are being made to malign our image but we will not bow to such forces."
Warning the centre to mend its ways, Sonia said, "We are the people who have given their blood & laid down their lives to protect the basic principles of humanity,"she added.
Former PM Manmohan singh also lashed out at the centre, he said,"By destabilizing Cong Govts in U'khand, Arunachal Modiji has attacked democracy. Now they are eyeing other Cong Govts."
"Cong always made sacrifices&took steps that are needed to save democracy & will continue to do so,"he added.
