Tightening the noose around jailed AIADMK supremo VK Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dinakaran, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has now issued a lookout notice him in a case of alleged bribery to secure the frozen party symbol of ‘two leaves’.
All airports, sea ports have been alerted with Dinakaran’s details, police said, adding that immigration officials have been directed to alert police if Dinakaran tries to board a flight.
The development indicates that Dinakaran, also the deputy general secretary of AIADMK and a non-resident Indian, may be arrested soon. There were reports that he might try to flee the country, police said.
Praveer Ranjan, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) confirmed that the lookout notice has been issued against Dinakaran and said that it was a preventive action.
The Crime Branch had arrested an alleged middleman on Sunday, Sukesh Chandrashekhar, here in connection with a bribery case to secure AIADMK’s election symbol.
Police said that Sukesh had told Dinakaran that he will get a favourable verdict from the Election Commission of India in the party symbol case for Rs 50 crore.
The 27-year-old had told Dinakaran that he has contacts in the Election Commission and his contacts will help the Sasikala faction get the AIADMK's poll symbol in a by-election to the RK Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu.
Police got on Chadrashekhar's trail after they received a tip-off from an informer about certain Election Commission officials being approached.
It has been learnt that he had struck a deal for Rs 50 crore for helping the AIADMK faction keep the 'two leaves' symbol, said an officer privy to the probe.
Till now, the middleman had allegedly been paid Rs 10 crore of the deal amount and the remaining amount was to be given to him in a time-bound manner.
He had allegedly received money through some Chandni Chowk-based hawala operators and police is probing the hawala link. Yesterday, Sukesh was taken to Chandni Chowk by Crime Branch officers to identify the hawala operators.
There are chances he might be taken to Chennai to uncover the money trail.
Yesterday, virtually paving the way for a merger between the two warring factions of the AIADMK, the party announced that Sasikala, Dinakaran and his family will be kept away from the party affairs as well as from the Tamil Nadu government. The decision was taken by the cabinet of Chief Minister E K Palaniswami.
