Rajkot: What appears to be curious case of political gimmickry, a Dalit victim of public flogging in Gujarat's Una town, who had been discharged from one hospital was admitted to another under 'political pressure', hours before the visit of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
According to a report in THe Indian Express, Ramesh Sarvaiya, who was among seven members of a Dalit family who were allegedly assaulted by a group of gau rakshaks while they were skinning a dead cow, was admitted to the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay under 'political pressure' ahead of Gandhi's visit even after being discharged from Junagadh civil hospital on July 18.
Ramesh was given first aid at a community health centre in Una town, before being referred to the Junagadh civil hospital for treatment of suspected fractures, the report says.
However, he along with his father Balu Sarvaiya, who had sustained head injury, was discharged from the hospital on July 18.
A doctor at the hospital said they had recovered from their injuries and were hence discharged.
Ramesh was spotted in the surgical ward of PDU hospital on Wednesday during Chief Minister Anandiben Patel’s visit. But the hospital documents show he was admitted to the same ward at 7.38 am on Thursday, around 7 hours before the Congress vice-president visited.
Ramesh, meanwhile, said his thighs had swollen again and the pain recurred which is why he got re-admitted to the hospital.
He rejected claims that he got admitted to the hospital again after being asked to do so by any politician or community leader.
