Uttar Pradesh government today announced compensation for the 35-year-old mother and her daughter who were raped by a gang on Delhi-Kanpur highway on July 29.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced Rs 3 lakh compensation and a flat each to both the victims.
The compensation comes a day after the family said that that they were not looking forward to any form of compensation from the government and were pleading for justice.
“We are not expecting anything from politicians or the government,” the 35-year-old mother had said, adding that she was deeply concerned about her teenaged daughter as she is not keeping well ever since the incident.
Yadav had yesterday accused political parties of politicising the incident and said he was ready for a CBI investigation.
“It is the opposition which is trying to rake up the issue for political benefits,” Yadav said, adding that the incident was unfortunate and that his government had taken strictest action.
He had also questioned the meeting behind closed doors between BJP leaders and the victim family and said, "If this is not politics, then what is?"
The three men, who have been arrested, have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. However, the police is yet to arrest the gang leader Saleem Bawariya and other accused. The incident took place on July 29 night when a 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were gang-raped by a group of robbers in Bulandshahr district.
