Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar today recalled the Tandoor case, where a Congress worker was caught burning the corpse of his wife in a Delhi hotel, in reaction to former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's alleged misbehaviour with a woman at a public meeting in Mysuru today.
"This is a crime, the way he abused her. That's how they see women, they haven't changed since the tandoor case. They only respect women from one family," the Union minister alleged, adding that Rahul Gandhi should tell what he willl do with him (Siddaramaiah).
The BJP leader's reaction came after new agency ANI published video of former CM at a public rally. The video shows an angry Siddaramaiah snatching the mike away from a woman, the dupatta also comes off with it, which she quickly fixes back.
Dismissing the incident as a mere happenstance, Karnataka Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao said that there was no such intention.
"Sometimes when people start asking questions in a rough way and after hearing them out when they don’t stop, you want to pull the mic. When pulling the mic the dupatta came along with. There was no such intention," he told the news agency.
In tandoor case, Sushil Sharma, a Congress youth leader, was caught trying to burn the chopped pieces of his wife's corpse in a Tandoor or brick kiln at an upscale hotel owned by him in south Delhi. The incident took place in 1995. Sharma was recently released from jail after serving in jail for over two decades.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) writes to Neelmani Raju, DGP of Karnataka asking for investigation into the matter. Whereas the women, who Siddaramaiah allegedly misbehaved with, said that she regards him as the 'best CM'. "I have no issues, he was the best CM. I only told him about some grievances and spoke roughly. I shouldn't have spoken like that to a former a CM. He got angry because I slammed the table," Jamala, the woman in video told media.
