The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a slew of measures for the people including uninterrupted supply of electricity in villages across the state between 6pm and 6am.
Besides, starting April 14, all district headquarters will be provided 24-hour power, Tehsils will get at least electricity for 20 hours and villages for 18 hours.
The decisions were part of a host of other initiatives directed by the government at a late night meeting with top cabinet ministers here on Thursday. CM Adityanath has asked officials to ensure there is no discrimination in power distribution in both rural and urban areas.
During the 6-hour long meeting, five ministers also submitted their presentations related to the works they have done so far and also explained the CM about their department’s future plans.
Among other decisions arrived at during the meet is distribution of 5 lakh new electricity connections in the next 100 days. Another important decision was that the faulty transformers in urban areas be replaced within 24 hours and in rural areas within 48 hours.
The CM further asked the concerned Minister to effectively implement the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and ensure efficient methods to reduce power theft.
Setting up of solar plants on rooftops of homes in cities should be given a push, the CM said, adding that other modes of generating additional electricity should also be brought under the consideration of the government.
A meeting between Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal and UP’s Power Minister Srikant Sharma in this regard is likely to be scheduled soon.
The new CM is also cracking down on a host of schemes of the erstwhile government that carry the 'Samajwadi' tag. All such schemes that carry the word 'Samajwadi' will now be replaced with 'Mukhyamantri'.
“The government has decided to replace the ‘Samajwadi’ word with ‘Mukhyamantri’ from all Uttar Pradesh government’s welfare schemes. We were informed that the erstwhile government had also added ‘Samajwadi’ word in several central government schemes. But now we have decided to retain the original names,” UP minister Siddharth Nath Singh told reporters.
Singh said that the government will also study the ‘Gujarat model of development’ to push investment and set up industries in the state.
The government also gave its nod to long pending Jewar Airport project near Noida. The CM directed that the project be completed within the stipulated time. The project was approved by the BSP government. However, it was stalled by the SP government when it came to power in 2012.
It is also believed that the CM was considering launching an application featuring government's development schemes and other policies. The CM has also directed officials to give special attention to issues concerning Bundelkhand.
Ever since taking charge as the CM, Adityanath has held several high-level meetings. In the first Cabinet meeting held earlier this week, he had waived off farm loan of up to Rs 1 lakh.
The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled for April 11 in Allahabad.
