Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today extended his wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for registering a massive win in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Powered by an aggressive campaign spearheaded by Modi, BJP candidates were on the road to victory in a whopping 306 of the 403 constituencies as counting continued for the millions of votes polled in the staggered elections. The imminent victory triggered widespread celebrations all across the UP as well as at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
“I congratulate Narendra Modi and the BJP on their victory in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
“I thank everyone in Punjab for their immense faith and support. This is a mandate for a brighter future for Punjab and it’s youth. My heartiest congratulations to Capt Amarinder Singhji & all our party workers who worked tirelessly,” Rahul Gandhi said.
As the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) licked their wounds, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and central Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called the win in UP bigger than the 2014 victory.
