Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Ram Chandra won the Bawana Assembly by-poll in Delhi by around 24,052 votes, giving a boost to the party which is in power in Delhi. Chandra got 59,886 votes, sotrming way ahead of BJP's Ved Prakash (35834 votes) and Congress's Surender Kumar (31919 votes).

The by-poll was necessitated after Ved Prakash quit the AAP and resigned from the assembly seat to join the BJP.

Earlier today, Chief Minister and BJP stelwart Manohar Parrikar won the Panaji Assembly by-election with a margin of 4,803 votes defeating Congress candidate Girish Chodankar. Meanwhile BJP candidate and health minister Vishwajit Rane won the Valpoi bypoll.

Meanwhile, the Nandyal Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh has become a battle of prestige for TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and YSRC head Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In Delhi, eight candidates are in the fray but essentially the AAP, the BJP and the Congress are locked in a triangular contest. The polling for the by-poll for Bawana constituency, held on August 23, saw only 45 per cent voter turnout, much lower than the 2015 Assembly elections which had recorded 61.83 per cent polling.

For the first time, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was used in the by-election. VVPAT is a machine which dispenses a slip with the symbol of the party for which a person has voted for. The slip drops in a box but the voter cannot take it home.

Here are the highlights of the by-election results from Goa, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh:

Bawana

The AAP has fielded Ram Chandra while the Congress has put its bet on former three-time MLA from Bawana, Surendra Kumar.
