Trouble seems to be refusing to fade away for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as hours after the arrest of their Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, another MLA of the party has been held. MLA from Mehrauli, Naresh Yadav has been booked in connection with a Quran desecration case.
Naresh Yadav
With their two MLAs getting arrested in one day, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has certainly put a question mark on its image.
A team of Punjab Police was rushed to the national capital to book the AAP MLA.
Yadav was booked under relevant sections of the IPC after one of the accused, Vijay Kumar, arrested in connection with the incident, claimed he had done it at the behest of the AAP MLA.
The Punjab police has already questioned the AAP MLA twice in connection with the incident.
The MLA was booked under various sections of IPC including 109 (punishment for abatement if the act abetted is committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295 injury or defiling place of worship with an intent to insult the religion of any class).
Police had claimed Vijay had even met the MLA before the incident and calls were also exchanged between them.
The Mehrauli MLA and his party have denied the charges and alleged it was a "political conspiracy" to malign the party's image ahead of Assembly polls in Punjab.
Forgettable day for Aam Admi Party
Before Naresh Yadav, AAP's Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan was today taken behind the bars after a 35-year-old woman filed a case against him last week for allegedly threatening her.
The alleged incident took place on July 10, when the complainant went to the residence of the AAP MLA in South Delhi's Batla House locality after a telephonic conversation with him to complain about poor electricity supply in the area. One of the legislators's supporters present there allegedly abused the woman and threatened her with dire consequences, she said.
Earlier, in June, AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, from Sangam Vihar in south Delhi, was booked in a sexual harassment case. Another party MLA Prakash Jarwal was also booked for sexual harassment and molestation. Mr Jarwal represents Deoli constituency of south Delhi.
Last week, Delhi Police also registered a case against AAP's Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti for allegedly instigating some of his supporters to misbehave with a woman.
Kejriwal finds Narendra Modi at fault
AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his lawmaker's arrest. Soon after Khan was taken into custody by police, Kejriwal tweeted: "Just in - Modi ji arrests one more AAP MLA."
Kejriwal's party had yesterday released a sting operation video and alleged that complainant was acting on the directions of police and the BJP.
