New Delhi: BJP councillors today thrashed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) counsellor Rakesh Kumar for wearing his party’s trademark cap at the special joint session of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) at Ramlila Maidan here.
Initially, the BJP councillors objected to the AAP member wearing the party cap at the session. They also asked Rakesh Kumar not to wear party cap at the event but he refused to listen them.
He was looking for a chance to speak at the meeting, where a resolution condemning Arvind Kejriwal government was passed earlier.
“I wanted to speak at the event but I was stopped from doing so. The BJP supporters thrashed me badly,” Rakesh Kumar said.
“It is against the norms… but for AAP members, rules are nothing. They love breaking the laws,” a BJP supporter alleged.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took it as an opportunity to attack the BJP.
“Attack on members of other parties is on rise since the BJP government stormed to power. We condemn this… This is a warning for the BJP, they must stop this otherwise people will not forgive them,” he said.
The three BJP-run MCDs are holding a special meeting at Ramlila Maidan to discuss issues with the Kejriwal government.
The decision to hold this meeting was taken to counter to the Delhi Assembly’s special session called to discuss corruption and mismanagement in the civic bodies.
