Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and poet Kumar Vishwas today rubbished claims that he may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
In a series of tweets, Vishwas termed the reports as ‘rumours’ and claimed that the AAP will emerge victorious in Punjab and Goa Assembly polls.
He also lashed out at media for spreading rumours.
Earlier this morning, reports doing the rounds suggested that Vishwas has held several rounds of talks with the saffron party leadership and expressed his willingness to join it.
Vishwas, who is known for his oratory skills, reportedly wanted to contest the UP Assembly polls on BJP ticket from Sahibabad constituency in Ghaziabad district. He was also scheduled to BJP president Amit Shah in Lucknow before a formal announcement is made regarding his joining, a Times of India report claimed.
Talks about Vishwas’s growing proximity to BJP leaders in last few months have grabbed media attention, fuelling speculations that he may join the party.
Vishwas had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls on AAP ticket from Amethi constituency against Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi.
The AAP had recently snubbed Vishwas when the party didn’t included his name in the list of star campaigners for the upcoming pills.
Since the AAP’s historic win in the Delhi elections, the poet-cum-politician has been missing in action barring a few visits to party chief Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia.
