Queen Elizabeth II is turning 90 today. Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and Head of the Commonwealth, was born on April 21, 1926. The Queen has reigned for more than 63 years and shows no sign of retiring. Even though she has in recent years passed on some of her duties to the younger royals, the Queen’s popularity doesn’t show any sign of decline. Born to Prince Albert, Duke of York (later known as King George VI), and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen Elizabeth was named Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. She married Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, became queen on February 6, 1952, and was crowned on June 2, 1953.
