Yashasvi Jaiswal's career-best score stands out on Day 1 of Vizag Test as England pick six wickets

    Debutant Shoaib Bashir drew first blood on the day picking up a huge wicket of Rohit Sharma who didn't look in good touch at all during his short stay in the middle. Rohit scored only 14 runs off 41 balls before getting out to the debutant.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal bossed the day with sublime batting as he remained unbeaten on 179 runs off 257 balls with 17 fours and five sixes to his name. Even as the other batters got out, Jaiswal concentrated hard and made sure that he held fort for his team on the opening day of the Test.

    Debutant Rajat Patidar looked assured during his stay in the middle. He stitched a valuable 70-run partnership with Jaiswal before getting out in an unfortunate way to Rehan Ahmed. Patidar will be disappointed not to convert his start into a big score on a flat pitch in Vizag and will be aiming to make amends in the second innings.

    Rehan Ahmed was introduced into the bowling attack close to the end of second session surprisingly. But the youngster surprised with the control he possessed during his bowling. Ahmed dismissed Patidar and KS Bharat to end the day with the figures of 2/61 in his 16 overs.

    KS Bharat will be disappointed not to stay unbeaten by stumps on Day 1 of the Test. He was batting at his home ground and was expected to bail India out of trouble and stay in the middle with Jaiswal. Instead, he played his shots scoring 17 runs off 23 balls before getting out to Rehan only a couple of overs before stumps.
