PV Sindhu wins silver and hearts, Indians hail the champion

  • 21 year old PV Sindhu has become the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal. At the Rio Olympics she settled for the white medal after being beaten 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 by World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain. The Hyderbadi started on a positive note but after 3-3, the Spaniard dominated the proceedings and took four consecutive points to lead 7-3 and then 9-5. Despite not being able to clench the gold medal, PV Sindhu won everyone’s respect. Irrespective of the colour of the medal, Sindhu emerged the apple of the eye for every Indian citizen. Her game brought the nation to a standstill with people glued to television sets.

  • "I'm on Cloud Nine. It's been a surprisingly great week. I played well, I had some great matches and now, I am Olympic silver medalist", Sindhu was quoted saying on her big win.

  • On her accomplishment, PV Sindhu's father PV Ramana said, "Sindhu won the 1st game, Carolina not an easy player, the way she (Carolina) moved on court today was excellent."

  • Sindhu flaunting her medal along with Spain's Carolina Marin and Japan's Nozomi Okuhara

  • In the true sportsman spirit, SIndhu hugged her competitor at the court.

  • The silver win by PV Sindhu took India's medal tally to two after wrestler Sakshi Malik settled for the bronze in the 58 kilogram Freestyle category on Wednesday.
