India were asked to bat first by Pakistan as Babar Azam won the toss in a rain-interrupted game at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium. The match was intervened by rain several times but the Indian openers got the Men in Blue off to a good start.

Learning from the previous errors against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started well. Gill took the aggressive route with beautifully timed strokes against the likes of Shaheen Afridi. Rohit joined the party soon as he took down Shadab Khan for 16 runs in three balls by the end of the 13th over. India were quick off the blocks, and Pakistan were on the back foot.

But Shadab broke the 121-run opening stand as he got Rohit off to a soft dismissal in the 17th over. Shaheen was brought into the attack soon and he got the other opener - Gill caught at covers off a slower ball. Pakistan sensed a comeback and India had two new batters - Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease.

But rain came to the party soon around 5 PM on Sunday and it kept playing the spoilsport till night. The pouring stopped but came down in periods but there were a couple of big patches formed at the R Premadasa. Rain came down after 8:30 PM and the play was called off for the day. However there was a reserve day kept for only this game along with the final, so, we got the game on Monday.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul produced a magic in the reserve day. Pakistan lost Harsi Rauf from their bowling arsenal as he suffered a side injury and did not take part in the remaining match. This forced Pakistan to give Haris' remaining overs to Iftikhar Ahmad. Rahul and Kohli did not leave any stone unturned. Rahul took the aggressive route and Kohli was happy to give strike to the wicket-keeper.

Kohli took on after scoring a fifty and Rahul's strike rate came down a bit. But the flow of runs continued and the duo went on to smash their respective centuries. Kohli got to his 47th ODI ton, while it was 5th century in the format for Rahul. Both notched a record 233-run stand and the duo remained unbeaten to take India to their highest ODI total against Pakistan - 356. Kohli scored 122* and Rahul got 111*.

Then came the bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav broke the back of the Pakistan bowlers. Bumrah got rid of Imam-ul-Haq before Pandya found a beautiful inswinger to clean the Pakistan skipper. Kuldeep Yadav joined the party soon. He got Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmad, and Faheem Ashraf to take a fifer. India won the game by the biggest margin against Pakistan - 228 (in terms of runs)
