Tracking the journey of Indian medallists Mariyappan Thangavelu, Deepa Malik and Varun Singh Bhati at Paralympics 2016

  • Indian athletes created history when Mariyappan Thangavelu, Deepa Malik and Varun Singh Bhati won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively at the Rio Paralympics. Thangavelu became India’s first gold medallist at the Paralympics with a jump of 1.89m and Bhati followed that performance up with a jump of 1.86m. Deepa Malik becomes the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics. She achieved the feat in the women's shotput event with a throw of 4.61m at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro
