The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League is set to kick-start in March. It is believed that with the introduction of this league, women's cricket in India will get a boost. The first match of the league will be played on March 4.

It is for the first time that three of India's biggest industrialists have invested money in the same tournament. The Adani Sports Line has bought a team of Gujarat Giants in this league. Mukesh Ambani's team Mumbai Indians is also participating in this league. Ratan Tata's Tata Group is the title sponsor of this tournament.

All the Women's Premier League matches will be played in Mumbai. In this league, a lot of attention has been given to Indian players. In the first edition of the tournament, a total of 10 Indian women players have been picked at the price of Rs 1 crore or more. Team India's star batter Smriti Mandhana has been bagged by the RCB team for Rs 3.4 crore.

In the league, only five foreign players will be allowed in the playing XI including one from the Associate Nation. Whereas in IPL the limit is of four foreign players.

The format for the Women's Premier League is also slightly different. A total of five teams are participating in this league. There will be two ways to reach the final clash of the tournament. The team at the top of the points table will qualify directly for the final. On the other hand, the teams in the second and third place will have to play a match to go to the finals. The team which will secure the fourth and fifth position on the league points table will be out of the tournament. The final match of the league will be played on 26 March.
