2019 World Cup: Australia face England in semis after narrow loss to South Africa

    Australia suffered a narrow loss to South Africa by 10 runs which now sees them slipping to the second spot on the points table and will face England in the semifinals.

    After losing Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram before the openers put on a 79-run opening stand, skipper Faf du Plessis slammed a century in guiding South Africa to a challenging total. He hit a 93-ball ton.

    Rassie van der Dussen played a gritty 96 and helped Faf du Plessis as well, leading South Africa to post a challenging total of 325/6 on the board.

    Australia lost Aaron Finch and Steve Smith early in the chase but it was opener Warner who hung on and anchored Australia's innings. He slammed his century as well, the third of the tournament.

    After losing Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell in quick succession, Alex Carey helped David Warner in the chase where the duo put on a 108 stand before Warner was removed for 122. Carey led the Aussies fightback but lost his wicket on 85.

    South Africa ended their disappointing campaign on a high, whereas Australia lock horns with arch-rivals England in the second semi-final where as toppers India face New Zealand in the first semi clash on July 9.
