Pockets of Kashmir faced extreme cold temperatures, with Srinagar recording the season’s coldest night at -5.4 degrees Celsius. The valley turned white as snow blanketed parts of Kashmir. The picture is taken during snowfall at Tangmarg of Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

Officials said that water supply pipes froze due to the intense cold in a few areas of the valley. The picture shows snowfall at Peer ki Gali, in the Shopian district of north Kashmir.

Sarthal meadow in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district turned completely white as the region received fresh snowfall on Tuesday. Pahalgam, which serves as base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a low of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius.

Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara in north Kashmir registered a minimum of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag in south Kashmir minus 4 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly dry weather in Kashmir till December 18, with a possibility of light snowfall in isolated places in the higher reaches of the valley on December 12.
