    In the late 1930s, Dilip Kumar's family shifted to Mumbai. before entering the world of showbiz, he worked as a canteen owner in Pune as well s a dry fruit supplier. In 1944, he acted in his first film called Jwar Bhata.

    Hindi author Bhagwati Charan Varma gave Yusuf Khan his screen name - Dilip Kumar. The actor then gave many super hit films and was romantically involved with actress Madhubala. It is said that the two had a nine-year-long relationship but Madhubala's father didn't approve of their marriage so they parted ways.

    It was in 1966 that Dilip Kumar tied the knot with Saira Banu who was 20 years younger than him. Later, he married for the second time to Asma in 1980 but their marriage ended soon.

    In 1976, Dilip Kumar took a break from the cinema after a series of flops. In 1981, he returned with the multi-starrer film Kranti and won the hearts of the people once again. the film also starred Hema Malini, Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha.

    Dilip Kumar's last film was in 1998 titled Qila in which he played a dual role as Jagannath Singh and Judge Amarnath Singh. In 2001, he was supposed to return to the big screen with Ajay Devgn starrer 'Asar-The Impact' but it got shelved.
