In the trailer, Alia is seen with both the actors Fawad and Sidharth. This was enough for cine buffs to anticipate that maybe ‘Kapoor & Sons’ is a love triangle and Alia’s character becomes the bone of contention between the two brothers, Arjun (Sid) and Rahul (Fawad). However, this is not the case. Alia said recently, “It is not a love triangle. It is about family, relationships, it is about a grandfather (Rishi Kapoor), who wants to bring his family together. There is a love angle but the plot of the film is about a family.”

Sidharth Malhotra’s plays the role of a wannabe writer in the movie. He is the younger of the Kapoor brothers. In a recent video released by Dharma productions Sid said that his character is trying his best to make it big in the world. Though Arjun is an extrovert there is a feeling of resilience in his head.

Fawad Khan, who plays the elder Kapoor, Rahul has just the right amount of emotions. While speaking to a leading daily, Fawad revealed that it was ‘greyness of each character that drew him to the script’. “Usually, family dramas are inhibited, rehearsed and controlled. But here is a family that is as real as it gets. Kapoor and Sons doesn’t hit a plateau for it has such mercurial madness and energy,” he added.

Tia, Alia’s character in the film is a ‘well- graphed interactive, girl next-door’. During one of her media interactions when Alia was asked to point out similarities between herself and Tia she said, “Tia, like me, is not a very girly-girl. She is a ‘chuller’ just like me.”

Speaking about how close the on-screen Kapoor family is to the typical Indian family, Sidharth Malhotra said, “Whatever Shakun has used in the film is taken from his family, or similar family from where I come from. It is very middle class and very relatable. The only challenge was to not make it fake.”
