Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday informed that in a successful pushback an illegal infiltrator in Karimganj district, one Bangladeshi national, Mohammed Arif, was apprehended and sent across the border by Assam police.
In September Assam Police had pushed back 17 Bangladeshis across the border including eight children. Applauding the Assam Police, the CM also revealed the names of the alleged infiltrators - Harul Lamin, Umai Khunsum, Md. Ismail, Sansida Begum, Rufiya Begum, Fatima Khatun, Mojur Rahman, Habi Ullah, Sobika Begum.
Earlier Sarma had said ''I have seen demographic invasions in Assam, Jharkhand and West Bengal. When the census is conducted, there will be shocking news on demography in Eastern India states'', Sarma said. In Assam, the situation is different as people are very much aware of the demographic invasion, he added. "During the Assam agitation against illegal foreigners, people warned that the issues faced by the state would eventually impact the entire country, and we are seeing that come to pass now," Sarma added. He added that if the voters list of 2024 and 2019 are compared, the demographic change will be evident.
