Assam flood: The flood situation in Assam improved on Wednesday, though nearly 1.4 lakh people remain affected in seven districts, according to an official bulletin. The daily flood report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) states that over 137,800 people are impacted by the floods in the districts of Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup, and Karimganj.
Cachar is the worst affected, with nearly 75,000 people impacted, followed by Karimganj with over 56,500 people and Dhemaji with almost 3,800 people suffering due to the floodwaters.
As of Tuesday, more than 150,000 people were affected by floods across seven districts of the state.
41 deaths so far
As of now, the total fatalities from this year's floods, landslides, and storms have reached 41.
Currently, the administration is running 109 relief camps and distribution centres across five districts, providing shelter to 37,799 individuals.
In the past 24 hours, the authorities have distributed relief supplies including 523.72 quintals of rice, 98.64 quintals of lentils (dal), 29.64 quintals of salt, and 2,963.39 litres of mustard oil to flood-affected victims in the state.
487 villages are under water
Currently, 487 villages are submerged under water, and a total of 1,334.51 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam due to the floods, the ASDMA said.
The floodwaters have caused significant damage to embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in several districts including Barpeta, Chirang, Dhubri, Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Kokrajhar, and Karimganj.
Currently, the Kushiyara River at Karimganj town is flowing above the danger mark, as reported by ASDMA.
Due to the widespread flooding, more than 1,24,800 domestic animals and poultry have been affected across the state.
