Assam: Restoration underway after 8 coaches of Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derail | VIDEO

Restoration is underway after eight coaches of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Express derailed in Assam’s Dimahasao district. No injuries were reported, and several trains have been cancelled or suspended. Relief efforts are ongoing.

Restoration work is in progress after eight coaches of Agartala Lokmanya Tilak Terminal Express derailed at Dibolong station in the Dimahsao district of Assam. The train left Wednesday at 3:55 pm but no one was injured. Railway officials confirmed that the derailed vehicles included locomotives and power cars.

“Few coaches and the engine of the train got derailed. However, no casualty or major injuries have been reported,” Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, chief public relations officer of NFR said in a bulletin. 

Assam CM stresses on passenger safety

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured on social media that all passengers were safe and arrangements were being made with railway authorities to send relief trains. A crash and medical train has been sent from Lumding to rescue people.

“No major casualty or injury and all passengers are safe. We are coordinating with railway authorities and a relief train will shortly reach the site,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on X.

“Relieved to hear all passengers of Lokmanya Tilak Express are safe after some compartments derailed. Thankfully, low speed minimized impact, and no injuries reported,” Tripura chief minister Manik Saha said on X.

Train cancellations and suspensions

Several trains have been cancelled or suspended on the Lumding-Badarpur section due to the incident. Trains like Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Special and Rangia-Silchar-Rangia Express were cancelled on Thursday and Friday. Agartala-Ferozpur-Cantt Express, Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express and many others were halted at nearby stations. Additional services scheduled for Friday have also been suspended.
