New Delhi: The heavy rainfall in UK has led to collapse of roads, damaged road, sinkholes etc. The abnormal weather conditions have caused damage to life and property. We take a look at the sinkholes on the roads around the world: 1. The 2010 Guatemala City sinkhole was a disaster in May, 2010. Sinkhole measuring 66 feet (20 m) wide and 100 feet (30 m) deep suddenly opened up, swallowing a three-storey building and a house. The sinkhole occurred due to Tropical Storm Agatha, the Pacaya Volcano eruption, and leakage from sewer pipes. 2. A house collapsed in Waihi, New Zealand, in December, 2001. A 50 meters wide and 15 meters deep swallowed the house. The house belonged to a family of five which escaped injuries. Subsidence in old gold mining tunnels has been blamed for the collapse. 3. In the morning of November, 2010, residents of Schmalkalden had the shock of their life when they saw the road divided into two parts due to a massive crater. It was possible that rock formations underground broke up, creating a cavity due to the landslide. 4. In September 2009, four firefighters escaped injury when their fire engine sunk into a large hole caused by a burst water main in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles. 5. A giant sink hole in Minnesota, Robbinsdale. The hole was estimated to be 15 to 20 feet deep and spans three lanes of traffic. 6. A truck hangs over the edge of a sinkhole that opened up in the parking lot of Hughes Relocation Services in Salt Springs, Florida, in June 2012. 7. Sinkhole in the National Corvette Museum, Kentucky opened up on Feb 12, 2014. The museum said a total of eight cars were damaged when a sinkhole opened up. 8. A car sits at the bottom of a sinkhole caused by a broken water line in Toledo, Ohio, July 3, 2013. Police say the driver, 60-year-old Pamela Knox of Toledo, was shaken up and didn't appear hurt but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
