In a major development, Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, on Thursday, said she will introduce articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden.
In a tweet, the Georgia Republican asserted that the articles would deal with the incumbent President's handling of border security, accusing him of an “absolute failure … to protect the states.”
"It is with the highest amount of solemnity that I announce my intention to introduce articles of impeachment today on the head of this America-at-last Executive Branch that has been working since January 20th, 2021, to systematically destroy this country: the President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden," Fox News quoted Greene as saying during a press conference on Thursday.
Further, the Congresswoman claimed that the incumbent President must be removed from his office as he has drastically failed to address the border issues. According to the Georgia Republican, Biden "deliberately compromised national security by refusing to enforce immigration laws and secure our border."
She maintained that President Biden permitted nearly 60 lakh illegal migrants from over 170 countries to "invade" America and added Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials were deliberately not equipped with resources crucial to secure the border.
Besides, Biden, the Republican leader also announced to move impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Not the first time
Notably, this was not the first time when Greene announced impeaching the President. But, in 2021, she accused President of dereliction of duty by leaving behind thousands of American civilians and Afghan allies, along with numerous taxpayer-financed weapons and military equipment, endangering the lives of the American people and the security of the United States.
White House calls it "a shameless attempt"
Meanwhile, the White House reacted to the recent announcement by the Republicans and dubbed it as a "shameless sideshow political stunt".
"Is there a bigger example of a shameless sideshow political stunt than a trolling impeachment attack by one of the most extreme MAGA members in Congress over ‘national security’ while she actively demands to defund the FBI and even said she ‘would’ve been armed’ and ‘would have won’ the January 6 insurrection if only she’d been in charge of it?" according to the statement released by White House spokesman Ian Sams.
"The president is focused on what’s important to the American people, like preventing House Republicans’ default that would crash the economy and protecting investments that are creating American manufacturing jobs, not silly political attacks," he added.
