US hit with another mass shooting: 3 killed, 16 others injured after gunman opens fire outside nightclub

In another incident of mass shooting in the United States, at least three men died and a total of 16 people were shot outside a nightclub in Mississippi. Mayor Ken Featherstone of Indianola, Mississippi, reported that three men have died and a total of 16 people were shot in a mass shooting incident. The shooting took place on Church Street shortly after midnight, according to the mayor. Among those shot, three 19-year-old men lost their lives, either directly hit or struck by ricochet bullets. Mayor Featherstone mentioned that no arrests have been made yet, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this time.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots in the area, with some victims struck directly and others hit by ricochet bullets. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this time. Indianola Police Chief Ronald Sampson informed a local newspaper, "Several witnesses recounted standing outside when they suddenly heard gunfire." Located in Sunflower County, Indianola is a small city approximately 83 miles northwest of Jackson.

The latest incident comes a day after a mass shooting that killed four people and injured nine others at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas on Friday (local time). The Arkansas State Police had stated that the shooting happened at the Mad Butcher grocery store around 11:30 am local time.  Arkansas State Police promptly responded to the information leading to a gunfire exchange between the lone suspect and police. Both the responding officers and the suspect sustained injuries, but none are believed to be life-threatening.

Notably, there has been a sharp spike in shooting incidents in the past few weeks. At least 21 other mass shootings were recorded by the Gun Violence Archive since last Friday. ​
