United Nations: The UN Security Council on Friday called on Mali's warring parties "to engage in good faith and in the spirit of compromise" towards a peace deal as the Malian government and rebels are set to resume peace talks in Algeria.

The peace talks is set to resume in Algiers, capital of Algeria, Sunday with an aim to "achieve a comprehensive and inclusive peace agreement to end the crisis in Mali", said the 15-nation council in a press statement issued here late Friday.

"The members of the Security Council called on the parties to fully comply with their commitments in the roadmap signed on July 24, 2014, and to engage in good faith and in the spirit of compromise in the comprehensive peace talks in Algiers when they resume," Xinhua reported citing the statement.

The peace talks between the government and armed rebels began in September in the Algerian capital, the second round of negotiations since July aimed at clinching a lasting peace agreement.
