4. Castle Stuart, Scotland
Castle Stuart was built in 1625 by James Stuart, whose grandfather was the half-brother of Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle was reputed to be haunted, and Stuart offered to pay a reward to anyone willing to spend the night at his castle to disprove the theory.
A local minister at Petty Church took the challenge and stayed at the room at the top of the East Tower. The following morning, his dead body was found in the courtyard below and he reportedly had a frozen look of horror on his face.
