Thousands come out in Ireland to protest death of pregnant Indian woman

Dublin, Nov 16: Thousands of protesters came out on Wednesday outside Ireland's parliament  to demand easing of tough abortion rules after  pregnant Indian woman Savita  died after being repeatedly denied abortion in an Irish hospital.

Her repeated requests for abortion were rejected  despite pleading that she was not an Irish national nor a Roman Catholic.  The doctors refused to terminate her foetus because of presence of a foetal heartbeat, her husband told state broadcasterRTE.

Ireland, a predominantly Roman Catholic nation, has the world's most oppressive laws as far as medical termination of pregnancy is concerned.
