New Delhi: Born on 11th of August 1943 Pervez Musharraf is a retired four-star general. He was the tenth President of Pakistan from 2001 until 2008. He was so powerful during his tenure till 2007 that he held the dual positions of army chief and head of state. He resigned as President in 2008 and went to London. On 24 March 2013, after a four-year self imposed exile, he returned to Pakistan.After his return to Pakistan On 26 April 2013 the court ordered house arrest for Musharraf in connection with the death of Benazir Bhutto. Later he was granted bail on May 20.Here are ten less known facts about Musharraf: Pervez Musharraf fought in the 1965 India-Pak war. In the 1971 war with India, he served as company commander in the Special Service Group Commando Battalion. He was born in in Mohallah Kacha Saad Ullah, Old Delhi. He was raised in Karachi, Pakistan, and Istanbul, Turkey. Musharraf took over as Pakistan's president in a bloodless coup in 1999 . His father, Syed Musharraf Uddin, was a member of the Pakistani Foreign Service and later, retired as secretary of foreign affairs. His mother, Zarin, worked for the United Nations Organization. He joined Pakistan Military Academy in 1961 and graduated 11th in his class. In 1965, he was charged with taking unauthorized leave and was about to be court-martialed when war broke out with India. His government increased reserved seats for women in assemblies, to increase women's representation and make their presence more effective. Compared with 1988 seats in the National Assembly were increased from 20 to 60. Musharraf also helped oust the Taliban from his country and has been the target of several assassination attempts since then. Pervez Musharraf resigned from the post of president in response to the coalition government's threat of impeachment.
