Kabul, May 29: At least one policeman was killed while several others were injured early Wednesday when some Taliban militants and suicide bombers attacked the provincial governor office building in Afghanistan's Panjsher province, Xinhua reported.
The Panjsher province, about 200 km from Kabul, has been branded as the most peaceful province in eastern Afghanistan.
"A group of militants numbered five or six or seven carried the attack at around 4.00 a.m. local time. First one suicide bomber detonated his explosive jacket near the entrance of the compound and following the blast other gunmen seized the building, " a police source said.
The Wednesday's attack is the second major complex attack launched by the Taliban in the insurgency-hit country within week.
On Friday, four people, including a child and a policeman, were killed and 17 wounded as Taliban stormed a UN-affiliated compound in capital Kabul.
After fierce gunfight and explosions lasting for hours, the Afghan police rescued 10 foreign aid workers from a bunker in the compound and the attack also claimed the lives of six attackers.
