Tehran, Aug 30: India told Pakistan Thursday that the expeditious conclusion of the trial of the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack would be the biggest sub-continental confidence building measure, a top Indian official said.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at his meeting here with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, said the speedy conclusion of the 26/11 trial would be major confidence and trust building measure, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai told reporters.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the two-day Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit that began here Thursday.
"The prime minister reiterated he desired to have peaceful relations. For this, we have to be patient and move forward in a step-by-step and graduated manner. This is the best way to succeed," Mathai said.
"The prime minister thanked President Zardari for repeating his gracious invitation to visit Pakistan and said he would like to visit at a suitable time. We would like a well-prepared visit," Mathai said.
