Lapeer (Michigan), Aug 17: A small Michigan town may have a new multi-millionaire resident.
The state lottery announced on Thursday that a $ 337 million jackpot-winning Powerball ticket was sold at a gas station in the town of Lapeer about 72 kilometres north of Detroit.
There wasn't immediate word about the buyer's identity.
"Well it should have been me!" said frequent customer Joe Jackson, "I was in here 10 times yesterday (Wednesday)."
It was the third biggest Powerball jackpot in the game's history, lottery officials said, and the holder could take home a $ 241 million lump sum.
The town's mayor, Bill Sprague said he got a call from local news media saying the only winning ticket had been sold at the Sunoco station.
Jackson thinks the attention will be good for the town.
"It's going to be good for the city and good for the store too," said Joe Jackson.
The Michigan Lottery said the business will get a $ 50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
