Revealed: Prisoners in North Korea's detention camp eat grass to survive

New Delhi: North Korean detention camp is home to more than 20,000 political prisoners.The prison has existed since the 1970s but is not on any official maps and little news of what goes on there reaches the outside world.A recent report published in Daily Mail has revealed that prisoners here are executed by strangulation, while others are so hungry they eat grass in order to survive.Earlier this month a United Nations commission evealed that people in here in detention camp are being forced to stand for hours. There are also reports of prisoners feeding off rats and snakes. Forty people are forced into the same cell and made to crawl on their hands and knees.The prison is also named in a shocking 400-page United Nations dossier on human rights abuses in the secretive state.UN investigators have warned North Korean security chiefs and possibly even Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un that they may have to face international justice for ordering systematic torture, starvation and mass killingsAccording to the newspaper, a former guard “Lee” at detention camp No16 has revealed the shocking cruelties and deprivation the inmates face.Lee revealed, prisoners here are being forced to dig holes in a field. They were then told to stand on the edge before being hit on the back of a head with a hammer.He mentioned that prisoners had to walk seven miles to work in -25 degree C conditions. Starvation was rife and the prisoners were often worked to death. Many ate grass, rats, snakes and even ants in a desperate bid to stay alive, he disclosed.
