New Delhi: Russian President Vladmir Putin has accused Unites States of leaking the flight trajectory of its downed Russian jet to Turkey.
"The American side, which leads the coalition that Turkey belongs to, knew about the location and time of our planes' flights, and we were hit exactly there and at that time," Putin claimed during a joint press conference with French president Francois Hollande.
"Why did we give this information to the Americans if they did not pass it along to the rest of the coalition?" Russian leader asked.
Putin also said America - as leaders of the coalition against Isis - had a responsibility to ensure warplanes were not targeted by members.
Turkey shot down a Russian warplane on Tuesday that it said ignored repeated warnings and crossed into its airspace from Syria, killing at least one of the two pilots in a long-feared escalation in tensions between Russia and NATO.
Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced what he called a “stab in the back” and warned of “significant consequences.”
Calling Russia an “outlier” in the global fight against the Islamic State group, Obama said that if Moscow were to concentrate its airstrikes on IS targets, mistakes “would be less likely to occur.”
On Sept. 30, Russia began a campaign of massive airstrikes in Syria, which it says are aimed at destroying fighters of the Islamic State group but which Western critics contend are bolstering Assad's forces.
