Islamabad: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted parts of northwest Pakistan Saturday night. No loss of life or property was reported.
The tremor was felt in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the tribal region bordering Afghanistan at about 11.20 p.m, Xinhua reported, citing local media.
It created panic among people who rushed out of their houses in the cold night, Pakistan Meteorological Department officials said.
The epicentre of the earthquake was initially determined at a depth of 82 km in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.
Pakistan is among the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. In October 2005, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit parts of the country, causing massive destruction, killing over 80,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands others homeless.
