New Delhi: Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir yesterday met National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon in the backdrop of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's keenness to meet his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in New York later this month.
Though there was no official word on the purpose of the meeting between the Pakistani top envoy and the officer in the PMO, it assumes significance in the wake of Sharif's repeated remarks expressing desire to meet Singh in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Earlier, Pakistan had also sought an appointment with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid's counterpart Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of the 13th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit during which the two will try and schedule a meeting between their Prime Ministers.
While Sharif has expressed his desire to meet Singh in New York, India has been maintaining that Islamabad needs to address its concerns on ceasefire violations in which five of its soldiers were killed.
